Talking to Strangers

In April, I submitted a guest blog post to Autism Speaks to promote autism awareness.   Though posted on their site on May 24th (a bit delayed), I shan’t complain.  Autism awareness needs to be a year-long thing anyway.  Here it is:

How My Husband and Son are Teaching Strangers About Autism

  1. I’ve always believed that people are basically good, if you give them the benefit of the doubt. And the way Patrick interacts with strangers proves this. I love how people, once they get past the curiosity, reach out in special ways.

  2. I think it’s all about education. Breaking down the walls. I always let people know up front and they are always like it doesn’t even matter or okay (and then you see the light bulb go on over their head). I usually do it so they can contextualize that I’m dealing with something they have no idea about and they may or may not want to watch to learn about it.
